Preservation of History
Overview: How do the Japanese American communities in Chicago preserve Japanese American history and pass on the history to the next generations?
History would just fade away and be forgotten by people if no one tried to keep passing it on to the next generation. However, because all history is important, we need to learn from it so we do not make the same mistakes again in the future. Thus, Japanese Americans certainly have been working on keeping their long and complex history through the pre-war time to post-war resettlement. As we mentioned earlier, there are a lot of Japanese American communities that have been helping each other. Additionally, so many organizations have been preserving Japanese American history. Each organization has its own way to do so. Some of the methods of preserving history are: organizing and showing people tons of archival data, keeping community connections with people, and keeping passing on the stories.
